Honda Formula 4- Stroke powerboat racing is certainly not a sport for the faint hearted. Travelling at speeds of up to 70mph, these marine machines hardly come into contact with the water - most of the boat is usually airborne!

The largest off-shore powerboat series in the UK arrives in Liverpool in August for the penultimate round in a five-race season. Relying solely on the skill of the driver and the navigator, racers will roar up the Mersey from the new Arena to the entrance of the Canning Dock Gates.

Two days of free live music, dance, theatre, comedy. The carnival parades Southport on Sunday. Expect an entertaining mix of the best UK and international street theatre and musical talent.

Southport is gearing up to stage one of sport's greatest occasions in July as the British Open Golf Championships comes to the region from 17-20 July, 2008.

The Open returns to the Merseyside coastline in the heart of 'England's golf coast for 2008. The Royal Birkdale Golf Club - one of Britain's finest golf clubs - will host the prestigious event, which attracts the world's best golfers.
The championship was last staged in Merseyside at Royal Liverpool in 2006.
